Early Career and Training

Luke Murphy is a Strength & Conditioning and Athletic Development Coach currently
working within high-performance and applied sport environments. He graduated with a BSc
in Sports Science from Technological University of the Shannon and is currently completing
an MSc in Applied Performance Coaching.
Luke has gained extensive experience across both elite and grassroots settings. He has
worked within the Connacht Rugby pathway, supporting age-grade athletes in their physical
development, and has also contributed to performance environments in soccer with Athlone
Town AFC. His coaching experience extends into GAA, where he has supported athletic
development programmes with St. Brigid’s GAA, working across youth and senior levels.
Alongside team sport environments, Luke has developed strong experience in 1:1 coaching,
particularly in rehabilitation contexts. He has supported athletes and individuals through
return-to-play processes, including ACL injury recovery, applying structured, evidence-based
progressions to restore performance safely and effectively.
Luke also possesses extensive knowledge of clinical populations, including individuals with
cardiovascular and metabolic conditions. Through continued professional development, he
integrates clinical considerations into his coaching to ensure safe, appropriate, and effective
training for a wide range of individuals

Coaching Philosophy

Luke’s coaching philosophy is built around a person-first, holistic approach. While his
practice is grounded in scientific principles and evidence-based methodology, he places equal
importance on the individual behind the performance.
He believes outcomes are maximised when physical, psychological, and lifestyle factors are
aligned. As a result, his coaching extends beyond traditional training to consider recovery,
education, behaviour, and long-term development.

Luke prioritises building strong coach-athlete and coach-client relationships based on trust,
communication, and accountability. Whether working with athletes or the general population,
his aim is to create an environment where each person feels supported, challenged, and
empowered to reach their potential.
